It talks about the characteristics particular to the internet that enabled net artists to talk across international boundaries directly. In the mid and late 90s, net artists were working and talking independently of any management or art-world company, without being criticized or deprived of their community. The online space was alive and super social, and there was a big audience for net art. We also learn about a much of mailing lists that were important to a lot of people in the techno culture groups. It also talks about the come up of net art in the 1990s and the ways that net artists used the internet to create a new form of art. It focuses on two prominent net.art projects, Jodi borg and ada web, and describes how they challenged conventional notions of art by foregrounding the machine and exploring the potential of the internet as a medium. The essay also highlights the challenges faced by net.artists in sustaining their projects and building an equitable community, as well as their growing concerns about the potential colonization of the internet by mainstream media and corporate interests. It then goes on by arguing that net artists' interest in the literal organization of public space on the internet paved the way for later generations of artists who continue to explore the possibilities of the internet as a way for creative expression.
